Fight or Flight

Fight or flight...what do you think? Clowns creep me out. I would definitely never fight a clown. And that is how I am starting this post so that I can use one of the limited pictures from my third back up computer.

LG and I have been discussing this theory of fight or flight lately. As I accused him of using fake sicknesses as a way of avoiding stuff..."that would be a flight technique", I told him.

For the most part, I didn't marry a fighter. He avoids contention at all costs, which is a good thing and a bad thing. But, I just love LeGrand. He makes me laugh. He is learning to put up his dukes (as my Grandma Dorothy would say) a little more, which is a good thing because he is an attorney by trade, and for all of my therapy to work, someone needs to put me in my place at times.

Anyhow, back to the fight or flight. LeGrand was explaining this theory to the girls at dinner last night. He had learned in a legal education class that mentally ill people can immediately and easily switch into a fight or flight mode, whereas normally healthy people only do so when in extreme situations. LG questioned the girls after his explanation, "If a big black bear were coming at you, what would you do?" "Run away, or stay and fight it."

Abigail and Bella didn't hesitate to say they would run as fast as they can.

Sophia on the other hand is always our imaginative one. She said, "I would throw gummy worms at the bear."

We all decided unanimously that we need to keep Sophia's hair blonde the rest of her life, no matter how much peroxide it will take.

Where does she come up with this stuff?

Where did she get that answer from?
Maybe she figured that if someone threw gummy worms at her... she would stop to eat them and thought the bear would behave the same way.

Interesting about the fight or flight in the mentally ill LeGrand... maybe you could counsel the mentally ill on the side... from the law office. ;)

It's finding that happy medium that is appropriate to the circumstances that we all want. Being on the other end of the spectrum from LG, I know that I rage on in destructive battle while cooler heads (like LG) prevails. :)

Too funny. You know what else is funny I almost changed my blog to the same background yesterday. I know this might be scary for you, but I think we might be a lot alike.lol Anyways I love the new look.

for the most part, i'm a fighter. I like a good fight. and for the bear. It would depend on the proximity of the bear. They say run but usually the bear will chase you down. So, it might be curl in the fetal, I don't know. I'm sure it's more than you wanted to know anyway. i'm a fighter. I'd probably flash how close am I and the gun.

Thanks for making me laugh again Sophia. I would have loved to be sitting around that table when that discussion took place.

As for flight vs fight, I guess I took after LeGrand!

And then there are disfunctional people like me. I do both fight and flight. If it's about me I am ALL about flight...heaven forbid I should stand up for myself. If it's for someone else and can fight all day long (although I will be shaking and sick to my stomach by the end of the day). Good times. :P I've found that now that I'm on an anti-depressant I can stand up for myself more and it's not nearly as stressful, but I'm still learning how to do it. Thanks for interesting topic to think about!
